Actuators
are electronically driven components within an Engine Management System
that control the supply of fuel, auxiliary air, idle speed, etc. They output
in many different ways but the common factor being that they are all controlled
by electrical signals at varying frequencies.
Over the years, manufacturers have changed from the earlier mechanical
actuators to the more advanced electronically driven components in an attempt
to drive the various parts of the system at faster rates and also to reduce
wear within the system.

on each component to learn about how it works.
